What does 'Trash Free Trails Australia' do?
Creating a deeper connection with nature

Trash Free Trails (TFT) is a UK-founded global community dedicated to protecting wild places by eliminating single-use pollution from trails.

TFT's mission is to reconnect people with nature by motivating and educating trail users (including riders, runners and roamers) to remove litter during their everyday activities and through organised cleanups.

Through its "citizen scientist" program, members record the pollution they find. This data is used to produce reports like the "State of Our Trails Report," raising awareness and advocating for a trash-free future.

What is Trash Free Trails Australia?

What started as a couple of separate community hubs on Sydney's north shore (Manly Dam and Old Man Valley), Trash Free Trails Down Under is a growing collective of trail users, organisations and events working together as a social enterprise to bring the Trash Free Trails philosophy to life locally in Australia by:

  • Recruiting and connecting more 'Trash Rangers';
  • Promoting and facilitating the adoption of the 'Trash Free Approved' events program;
  • Recruiting local community hubs;
  • Developing localised messaging, content and assets;
  • Capturing local data and insights;
  • Co-ordinating with the UK team;
  • Identifying and celebrating the trail-related individuals, organisations, events and destinations who are protecting our precious playgrounds.

Important note about personal safety when picking up and removing single-use pollution!

Trash Free Trails Australia is a social group and picking up and removing single-use pollution is entirely at your own risk.

Please take necessary precautions, looking out for hazards that may include leeches, spiders, snakes, dogs, golf balls, broken glass, asbestos and other good stuff!

Don't feel comfortable picking something up?

If you see single-use pollution that needs moving, but you don't want to be the one to move it, contact your local council!

When using the trails:
  • Always ride, run or walk responsibly and within your skill level.
  • Always follow local trail guidelines, respect other trail users, and be aware of changing conditions.
  • Wearing appropriate safety gear, such as helmets when mountain-biking, is essential for your protection.
At first glance this dumped vacuum cleaner on Possum Trail in Sydney's north looked like a snake, and the inverse applies... a snake could look like a vacuum cleaner!
