Garigal Gorillas Fiver Rides

Ride. Support. Socialise! Join the Garigal Gorillas for a fortnightly Wednesday summer evening series dedicated to exploring the Northern Beaches' best trails while raising funds for local track maintenance.

The Fiver Rides (or "5'er Rides") are a popular series of social mountain biking events hosted by the Garigal Gorillas MTB Club on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

They are designed to bring the local riding community together during the warmer months (Daylight Savings) for a mix of social riding and "après" (post-ride) celebrations.

Key Features of the Fiver Rides

  • The "Fiver" Concept: The name comes from the entry fee: a $5 donation. This money goes directly toward trail advocacy and maintenance to protect the local trail network.
  • Frequency: They typically run every fortnight on Wednesday nights during the summer season (roughly October through March).
  • The Experience: Each event features a unique, signposted route (using the Trash Free Trails 'Speed Flagging System', often at different locations like Mt. Narra (Narrabeen). There are usually two starting options: one for "pinners" (racers who want to go fast) and one for "social" riders (there for the banter and laughs).
  • The Après: After the ride, participants gather for food and drinks provided by local business sponsors.
  • Skill Level: Because the trails on the Northern Beaches can be quite technical, these rides are generally recommended for intermediate to advanced riders.
